Resumo: Green building certification programs are strategies to distinguish buildings in
comparison to conventional constructions. Nowadays, these rating systems are
applied in a variety of building types, and comprehend some of the main current
concerns about the environment. However, the very own definition of sustainability
goes beyond the environment, consisting in something that also includes economic,
social and cultural concerns, embracing a wider concept than it‟s usually taken for.
This concept‟s complexity shows that defining something as sustainable – role
played by the green building certification - goes beyond green washing. In this paper,
it is a hypothesis that those programs don‟t fully consider the relation between the
building and its surroundings, regarding the contribution this building can give to the
street, the neighborhood, or the city in which it is inserted. Having as focus the
residential buildings - more specifically in social interest housing – this hypothesis
has proven itself partially correct. At the end of this paper, some suggestions for
improvement are compiled.

Resumo: Facing the environmental problems we face in Brazil and in the world,
especially with the scarcity of natural resources and climatic adversities, we must
design an architectural project to encourage the rational use of natural resources,
reduce construction and maintenance costs, and have social responsibility with who
will use the building should be a basic premise incorporated into the architect's
design process. In a country where the housing deficit is shameful, looking at
housing of social interest is also one of the tripods of sustainability: the social. This
work proposes to structure basic design recommendations that can serve as
guideline in the process of designing housing of social interest for the semi - arid
region of Rio Grande do Norte, in order to produce a building with low environmental
impact. For this purpose, a bibliographical review on bioclimatic architecture, thermal
performance of dwellings, vernacular architecture and good practices for sustainable
housing was used as methodology. Climate Consultant 5.3 software was also used
to obtain data on environmental conditioning factors and bioclimatic strategies for
adaptive comfort in the city of Caicó / RN.

Resumo: Nowadays, ecological movements are discussed the preoccupations to practice
awareness to the environmental situation in our planet (CUBA, 2011, p.2). According
to 225 article in Brazilian Federal Constitutional, “(…) is an asset of common use and
essential to a healthy quality of life, and both the Government and the community shall
have the duty to defend and preserve it for present and future generations” (Brazil apud
LOUREIRO, 2008, p. 3) the implantation to a public space should have a responsibility
to promote “a educational moment to exercise de citizenship” (LOUREIRO, 2008, p.2).
In this way, if one of functions to contemporary landscaping is a environmental
interaction (BERGAMINI, 2009, p.9), this article intends study and propose a public
space whose the principle is a environmental reflection about the sustainable,
implementing the concepts practically and playfully.
In this context, this article develops a public space draft for the population
environmental education, to the community exist in the Bela Vista neighborhood, in Macaiba City east zone, contents to apply of triple bottom line (people, planet and
profit).
The public space suggested has the focus to interaction between the community and
the environment, apply to concepts: low maintenance, bond between the population
and the square, plantation natural species in the landscaping.
Adapt the projetual methods of Bergamini (2009) and Brígido (2011), first it is do the
theme literature review, after it is choose the intervention area. And, after the
understanding to the projetual conditioning, it is studding which activities is better to
that community and is according to projects goals, culminate, than, to the start to the
proposal. Lastly, the area is zoned and choose the vegetation.
During the conception, explore activities to kids and adults, such as a space to
community counselor meetings, amphitheater to courses and talks, urban garden,
playground, public gym and the landscaping using fruit trees and adapt shrubs.
According to results shows, there is diversify sustainable urbans solutions. However,
it is observed that in the community the most people go there at night, culminating in a
project with night uses. To the landscape, nowadays the species are riparian
