Título: Licenciamento da carcinicultura no estado do rio grande do norte entre os anos de 2008 e 2017
Resumo: Brazilian shrimp farming began in the 1970s with the introduction of the
species Penaeus japonicus. In the 1980s, there was an attempt to domesticate
native species. Also in this decade, Litopenaeus vannamei was introduced, which is
the most cultivated species in the country today. Shrimp farming can foment the
Brazilian economy. Nevertheless, it has negative effects, as contamination of water
bodies adjacent to the farms and the destruction of mangroves. This research aimed
to evaluate the situation of shrimp farming in the state of Rio Grande do Norte (RN),
especially with regard to its legal aspect. Initially, it was made an account of the
history of the Brazilian shrimp farming. Next, the positive and negative impacts of this
activity were commented on. We then discuss environmental licensing, its importance
and its underlying analysis. Subsequently, a survey was made of the licenses
granted by IDEMA for shrimp farms between 2008 and 2017. Finally, the possible
causes of the pattern of granting licenses during the study period were discussed,
showing that the number of licenses granted by IDEMA each year reflects the
situation of shrimp farming in the country.
