This study aimed to understand how women developed in the labor market in a historically patriarchal society, the achievements and struggle for rights and whether gender inequality is still relevant even after the measures for their protection are legally guaranteed. The research used the deductive hypothetical method with a social- historical approach to the worker, observing laws that were adopted in favor of historical isonomy. The study indicated that despite advances in the achievements of protection of the Brazilian female worker, there is still evidence of inequality in the daily professional life, through factors that affect only women, such as motherhood and the balance between having more than one job, meaning the responsibility of taking care of work, children and home, a consequence of the historical attribution conditioned to the female sex, which was even aggravated by Covid-19, since the pandemic has worsened this burden with distance work, concluding that the search for gender equality must not cease, seeing that the reality is not consistent with the rights obtained, and doing so through public policies that protect the condition of women in the market.
