A vulnerabilidade das mulheres transgênero e travestis dentro do sistema carcerário da grande Natal/RN

Abstract

This work was based on the deductive method, with an explanatory character, aiming to analyze the potential vulnerabilities faced by the grouping of transgender women and travestis within the prison system in the greater Natal/RN area. They are subdivided into the penitentiaries of Dr. Francisco Nogueira Fernandes, better known as Alcaçuz Penitentiary, located in the Alcaçuz District in the municipality of Nísia Floresta, and another located in the Dinorá Simas Public Jail in the municipality of Ceará-mirim. In this context, this article's general objective is to present what it means to be a transgender woman or travesti and discuss the hyper-vulnerability experienced in society leading to incarceration. The specific objectives are related to the experience of being a transgender woman or travesti within the prison system and to demonstrate how the State has been negligent in protecting the fundamental rights of transgender or travesti women serving custodial sentences. To support the hypothesis that this social group faces vulnerability, a bibliographic review and analysis of institutional data collection will be employed, including interviews with the Public Prosecutor's Office of the State of Rio Grande do Norte, as well as with the Correctional Officer and Institutional Psychologist from the female prisons in the greater Natal area. Consequently, the aim is to conclude by presenting the shortcomings the State has regarding this social group and proposing possible solutions following the recommendations of the Public Prosecutor's Office of RN.
